Introduction

This project is not from a brief from college or a design competition. For me, not only is the purpose of this project designed to meet some of the ARB criteria, but it is also a chance for me to produce a project where I am able to apply some entrepreneurial creativity and reach out to another potential market.

It can also be applied to a future competition brief since this project is designed to be accommodated as a new build architectural scheme as well as an internal alterations scheme to fit into the skeleton of a derelict building.

The topic of this scheme is relating to a subject that I'm very familiar with. As a martial arts practitioner and an instructor in my spare time, I have gained a knowledge of how architecture, technological, interior and product design can be applied and recreated to improve the experience and improve training for other martial arts practitioners.

Prior to commencing this project, I carried out investigations on the Intellectual Property Office to ensure that my proposals indicated in this project are unique. It will therefore be explored as an innovative venture in the future.

These objectives which I intend to fulfil have also been written:

- To reflect on current trends in all martial arts, how people train and what people would like to see in terms of what can make their training better.

- To design comprehending the structural implications whilst maintaining the integrity of an architectural design solution by referring to traditional architecture of dojos and other existing martial arts centre precedents

- Precedents to be reviewed are diverse yet relevant to the proposal whilst remaining relevant and current within its surrounding context.

- Design to comprehend sustainable visual,  thermal and acoustic implications as a whole as well as within their three separate proposed functions

- Conduct research into and design to comprehend national legislation, appropriate performance standards and health and safety requirements.

- Apply architectural technological background and design buildings services to be innovative and integrated with the scheme.

- Whilst establishing a boundary grouping in terms of private and public user groups, provide accommodation for varying level of committed practitioners (those who may be visiting from overseas)

- Given the space has a unique demographic in terms of those of a heightened fitness and specific dietary requirements, provide a space that is reflects their needs, whilst ensuring proposal remains user friendly for the public.
